Together with Spanner, we re-engineered the Scalpel Active Vision Scanner, an
AI-powered surgical instrument scanner, from a raw engineering prototype into a market-ready med-tech product.
The challenge was sharpening usability, manufacturability, and visual presentation without disrupting parallel algorithm development. Field use surfaced the real friction: tray handling ergonomics, reflective instruments interfering with the AI, and wildly different lighting across logistics centers.
The result is a clinical-grade design language: confident, clean, and purposeful. Controlled diffuse lighting and intuitive cues guide the user, delivered in just 12 weeks for launch at a major orthopedic surgeons meeting.
